audio quality

It seems that madplay has trouble decoding certain mp3 files fast enough to play them in real-time. I'm sure it should be able to do this easily, so there's probably something wrong with the compiler options I used to build libmad. Until I can figure out what's the matter, I have an experimental slimrio-0.7b-root.tar (note the 'b' suffix), which contains a kludge to run madplay in a reduced-quality mode. This does seem to completely eliminate the audio stuttering problem; the down-side is that the sample rate is halved, so high-frequency response is compromised.

An alternative compromise is to use the original slimrio-0.7-root.tar and get SqueezeCenter to reduce the bit-rate using the option: (Player settings - Audio - Bitrate limiting)
